Welcome to the AOL/Macworld interactive CD-ROM. This document contains technical information regarding the software on this CD-ROM.
Minimum System Requirements (for “Start Here”):
• Macintosh Quadra or Centris series computer (with a Motorola 68040 processor). Macintosh computers with the PowerPC processor are recommended.
• System 7.1 or newer. System 7.5.3 is recommended.
• 14 inch color monitor with the capability of displaying 256 or more colors at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels
• Double speed (2X) CD-ROM drive.
• Quicktime 2.5, Sound Manager 3.2 (located in the “Cool Stuff from Apple Computer” folder on the CD-ROM.
• 8 MB of RAM (4,800k free). 16 MB of physical RAM is recommended. To see how much available RAM your computer has, choose "About this Macintosh" from the Apple menu.
System Requirements (for America Online 2.7):
• 68030 CPU (68040 or better recommended)
• 640 x 480 Resolution - 13" Monitor
• System 7.1.1 (System 7.5.3 Revision 2 or later recommended)
• 8 MB Physical RAM
• 15 MB Free Space on Hard Drive
• 9600 bps Modem (14.4 or 28.8 kbps modem recommended for optimal experience)
* Install AOL 2.7 now and you will have access to our new 3.0 online upgrade as soon as it is available. AOL 3.0 for Macintosh will be available for online download and you will also receive the new software by mail if you are a current AOL member!
Macintosh Installer Notes:
1. This CD-ROM contains the a final release of Apple Computer’s Quicktime 2.5 which allows playback of digital video movies. To install Quicktime 2.5, double click on the file named “QuickTime™ 2.5 installer”. Your computer must be restarted after the installation of Quicktime 2.5. If you are not sure what version of Quicktime is installed on your computer, double click on the application “Start Here !” and the program will prompt you to install Quicktime 2.5 if your computer contains an older version of Quicktime. Please note that it is not imperative to install Quicktime 2.5, but highly recommended for optimum playback.
2. As it is with all multimedia products, virtual memory, file sharing, and all other unnecessary extensions and control panel software must be disabled for optimum performance. If you have Ram Doubler® or Speed Doubler® installed, please diasble it as well. For additional instructions on how to disable extensions and control panels, please consult your system software manual.
3. Make Appletalk inactive. This is done my choosing the Apple Menu and selecting "Chooser" and clicking on the "inactive" button next to Appletalk.
